In practicing numerology, we assign meanings to each of the single-digit numbers, as well as to the master numbers 11 and 22. (Note: Some numerologists recognize and use 33 as an additional master number. There is nothing wrong with doing this, but we personally don’t. I’m sure we’ll get around to making a post about it eventually.)

Depending on what position of your numerological chart you find these numbers in, they could signify different things, but the general meanings of the numbers are consistent throughout their use. We’ll lay out the meaning of the single-digit numbers below. The numbers can take on a variety of nuances, but we’ve found that the best way to get a feel for the single-digit numbers is to understand some keywords that bring out various aspects of the numbers.

Number 1: The Primal Force

Keywords: Leadership, independence, individuality, determination, ambition.

Number 2: The All-Knowing

Keywords: Harmony, peacemaker, cooperation, tact, sensitivity.

Number 3: The Creative Child

Keywords: Creativity, self-expression, optimism, light-hearted, communication.

Number 4: The Salt of the Earth

Keywords: Practicality, stability, organization, detail-oriented, persistent, hard work.

Number 5: The Dynamic Force

Keywords: Freedom, adaptability, adventure, dynamic, curiosity.

Number 6: The Caretaker

Keywords: Caring, service, responsibility, family-oriented, nurturing.

Number 7: The Philosopher

Keywords: Introspection, spirituality, analysis, logical, intuition.

Number 8: Balance & Power

Keywords: Power, success, material abundance, authoritative, achievement.

Number 9: Global Awareness

Keywords: Humanitarian, compassion, selflessness, tolerant, universal love.

In short, spend some time with each of these numbers. As you do your readings, notice where these numbers tend to come up, and what that could potentially signify. For example, the number 2 (balance, cooperation, sensitivity) as the life path could represent someone whose life direction is headed toward cooperation. This could be a future homemaker, or a diplomat, or a counselor. Someone with the number 2 as their maturity number, though, may not feel the cooperative energy and push of the 2 until later in life. They may lead a relatively independent life until then. The same number in two different positions will mean two different things.
